It is astonishingly difficult to get ten different kids to 1.) smile, 2.) keep their eyes open, and 3.) look at a camera at the same time.
In this blog post, enjoy the many attempts that I made, along with a smattering of various happenings from the last few weeks.

Hawk Island Snow Tubing!
It has long been a Summers-Knoll tradition that the entire school goes ice skating together on the Friday before mid-winter break. Our tiny school, however, has grown into a small school, and we're now large enough that having all of us on an ice rink at once is a bit unwieldy. Last year, the middle schoolers inaugurated a new tradition: While the lower schoolers went ice skating, we traveled to Lansing to Hawk Island Park to go snow tubing.
Here's a sampling of the photos (and a couple of videos at the end) that I was able to snap before a blizzard moved in and jeopardized the survival of my camera.

Mars Out of Time (or "MOOT.")
| Belgian cartoonist Hergé has recently joined our class. |
Over the next several weeks, you'll be hearing a lot about the planet Mars, and something we call "MOOT."
"MOOT" stands for Mars Out of Time, which is a new spin on one of our favorite annual projects. For many years, Summers-Knoll students have had the opportunity to participate in Place Out of Time (or "POOT"), a simulation run by the University of Michigan. The idea behind Place Out of Time is brilliant: What if we could bring the great (and lesser) minds of history to ponder a contemporary issue?

Our class lately. . .
It's been difficult to adequately sum up what's been happening at school lately, as we've been very busy!

Soccer with Friends School
We had an exciting morning today. First, we held auditions for our upcoming school play Alice in Wonderland.
Immediately afterward, we hosted the Friends School In Detroit for a cordial soccer match in County Farm Park. It's part of our burgeoning interscholastic athletic organization, which our own Karl Sikkenga has been masterminding. Read more about the schedule on Karl's blog.
It was a lovely way to spend the morning, and everyone had a great time! Ask your child about the game!
